Obituary

H. B. Barnes Jr.
Horace Benton (H. B.) Barnes, Jr., 96, of McRae, Georgia passed away on May 10, 2020 in the Dodge County Hospital.
He was born in Towns, Georgia on February 26, 1924 to H. B. and Emma Curtis Barnes. He was a graduate of ABAC and University of Georgia. He served in World War II as a Marine in the South Pacific and in the Occupation of Japan. Following graduation at the University of Georgia, he served as an instructor for the veterans farm training program in Telfair County. He was a lifetime farmer and raised registered Duroc hogs. He retired as an of office manager for the Georgia Department of Veterans Services. He was a long time member of Scotland United Methodist Church and currently a member of McRae United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of McRae Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Jean Smith Barnes, and a son, Steve Barnes. Survivors include his children Cookie (Ted) Palmer, Patty (Stan) Rutherford, Reid (Kitsy) Barnes, and his 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McRae United Methodist Church, PO Box 55008, McRae, Ga., 31055.

I knew H.B. for 65 +years! He treated me like family and shared many stories I will cherish forever! My condolences to all of the family. I know his last breath here was his first in Heaven! I can only guess how the angels are singing! What a reunion is taking place! Our loss is heaven’ gain!

Mr. B was my McRae "dad". I always felt like one of the kids!! He was soft spoken and kind to all he met. Mr. B will be missed but great memories will be with us always. Sympathy and prayers for all of the family. Love, Cindy,Mike,Gordon and Mrs. "Bea"!!!
