R. Wayne Vickers, 82, of McRae, GA passed peacefully on April 5, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie P. Vickers and Rhoda T. Vickers; siblings Maggie Vaughn, Julian Vickers, Bennie Vickers, and Gene Vickers.
Mr. Vickers was born in Berrien County, GA on April 16, 1939. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa, manning Nike Hercules Missiles. Following his time of service in the U.S. Army, Mr. Vickers worked with U.S. Gypsum Company in Jacksonville, FL. He moved to Telfair County after marrying in 1969. In 1994, he retired after a long career as plant superintendent of Southern Cotton Oil/Golden Peanut Company. Testimony to his belief and practice in hard work, he became a school bus driver for the Telfair County Board of Education, and retired again in 2004. He was a member of Soul Cross Ministries.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judy McVey Vickers; daughter Lori (Buddy) DeFore; son Gary (Nita) Vickers; grandchildren Bobby Landmesser, Rex Williams Jr., Rusty Williams, Chandler Vickers, Laila Vickers, Emmalee (Glen) Jones, and great grandchild Bobby Jr. Landmesser; sisters Ann (Alfred) Bohanon; Ava Ramsey; Jo (Danny) Culpepper; Faye Zittrouer. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. His loyal puppy ‘Peanut’ will miss him so much.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 8, 2022 at Lowe’s Funeral Home in the Chapel from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M., immediately followed by a homegoing service in the Chapel at 2 P.M. Burial will be at Telfair Memorial Gardens. Special brother-in-law Danny Culpepper, special friend Eric Jarrard, and Chaplain Doug Stevens will officiate.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to special friend and caregiver Tracy Hulett, all employees of Hospice Care Options of Eastman, GA, and the ICU employees at Dodge County Hospital. We will never forget how professional and caring each of you were.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Options of Eastman, GA., Alzhemier’s Association, or the church or charity of choice. Flowers will be accepted.
