Samuel A. Spires
Samuel A. Spires, 76, of Alamo, died peacefully at home on Monday, June 28th, 2021.
Sam served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He was Alamo Chief of Police, Chief Deputy in the Wheeler County Sheriff Department, and Route Supervisor with Fuel South before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter L. Spires Sr. and Mildred Davis Spires.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 2nd, 2021 at 11:00 A.M in the Chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment following in the Telfair Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
Taylor Lister, Ben Atkins, Neal Gurtman, Briceson Belflower, Troy Purvis, Steven Sutton, Brandon Candill will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Spires of Alamo; 2 daughters, Dell (James) Atkins of Helena, Joni (Tony) Crumbley of McRae; 7 grandchildren, Kandie Sharpton, Marcie Sharpton, Abbie Atkins, Ben Atkins, Taylor Lester, Megan Lester, Heather Kersey; 6 great-grandchildren, Briceson Belflower, Madison Purvis, Aspen Williams, Temperance Williams, Kenzi Carter, Presli Atkins; 1 brother, Walter Spires Jr. of Scotland; 1 sister, Donna (Johnny) Brown of Alamo; nieces and nephews and friends also survive.
The family will greet friends and family from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 1st, 2021 at Lowe’s Funeral Home.
