Obituary for William Griffin Knowles

William Griffin Knowles

William Griffin Knowles went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 23rd at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, GA. He was born December 7, 1949 to the late W.D. & Swillie Knowles of Milan.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Poole Knowles - a daughter, Melanie (Bryant) Sims of Greenwood, SC; a son, Mark Knowles of Milan and 4 grandchildren - Bryanna Sims, Jonah Sims, Ashlee Knowles and Kaylee Knowles. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Knowles.
Survived also by brothers - Carey (Jane) Knowles and Randy (Pat) Knowles; sisters - Elaine (Ronnie) Lancaster and Faye (Jay) Wells and many nieces and nephews.

William was a Lifetime Farmer. After graduating Telfair County High School in 1967, he farmed extensively for over 50 years. He was the manager and co-owner of Milan Peanut Company. He also ran a father/son cattle operation which gave him great pleasure to oversee daily.

In previous years, he served as a Deacon and Men’s Sunday School Teacher at Siloam Baptist for over 25 years and also taught when health allowed at Milan Baptist Church. His love for the Lord carried him through his years of health issues and the Lord worked many miracles. He always gave the Lord the praise, honor and glory for letting him live as long as he did.

William loved his family. He was a faithful husband and loving father. He provided well for his family. In recent days, he had said that he had accomplished all of the goals he had set for his life and that the Lord had blessed him to do so. He is now with Jesus and is no longer suffering. That is what the Lord promises in His Word to those that know Him.

Rev. Bryant Sims will officiate with the assistance of Brother Aubrey Corbitt. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Gideons International.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2021, in the Chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. in the chapel.
